Moving Steampunk Jewelry...
So, as well as the sculptures, I've been for a while now trying to get some of the jewelry I make to "work". I am not, alas a watchmaker (maybe one day. lol) but I'm fairly good with figuring out things. I wanted to make some jewelry that would move... not just swing, or "be moveable" - I wanted to get the gears to spin.
No shock it took a heck of a while to get it going.

The piece below is going to be the first of 5 or maybe 6 pieces I hope to make. Not only is there the challenge of getting halfway decent bits of pocketwatches but in this case there was "repair" work to be done. The original gears were (like most of the ones I get) rusty and crusted with dirt. Nothing an ultrasonic couldn't help with. Then I took it apart and "polished" the gears. In some cases I've had to replace some of the gears - and that, my friends, is most difficult. In one case - impossible. But that piece will come later. This is the first completed and it took me a while to get the video up. In the meantime I've almost got another one ready. The jewel btw, is amethyst set in sterling silver and set in a gear :D

Steampunk Jewelry movement #1

and the vido... hmf. I'm sitting here wondering if this will work. :: crosses fingers::

Oh, that is cool! (Also, I am in love with your Halloween-y necklaces from last update.)

thank you! :D
they are rather spooky. I'm doing a show next weekend and wanted something very different - and jewelry with bones would be different. :D

the 3rd for me...

I likes it! Purple, yumm. One day I'm going to get one of those large gem-cut oval amethysts for a rubbing stone. Well, I dream so, anyway.

At what point does it stop being jewelery and start being something else entirely?

Hi

I'm sorry that I missed the Bazaar of the Bizare this weekend, it would have been great to see your creations up close.

I saw on etsy that the Unlocking the Dream of Flight had been sold and I was wondering if you were planning on making more like that?

I found your LJ by following a thread from another journal. I also found your Etsy site, with its many cool items.

I really like the idea of moving clockwork jewelry. If you do a moving pendant along the lines of this one, but with a planetary/SF theme like the Hailey's Comet one, I'd definitely be interested in buying that puppy off o' ya.

hmmm! nice idea!
Right now just getting them moving is a bit of work - but I'm enchanted with the idea of moving parts in jewelry. You have given me such an excellent idea though - I think i'll start playing around over the next few weeks. First - I just might have a piece that would do.

Thanks for the offer of friending me! I've friended you back as well. Always good to meet new and interesting people.
